Google Blog: The future of online video: "The Internet has had an enormous impact on people's lives around the world in the ten years since Google's founding. It has changed politics, entertainment, culture, business, health care, the environment and just about every other topic you can think of. Which got us to thinking, what's going to happen in the next ten years? How will this phenomenal technology evolve, how will we adapt, and (more importantly) how will it adapt to us? We asked ten of our top experts this very question, and during September (our 10th anniversary month) we are presenting their responses. As computer scientist Alan Kay has famously observed, the best way to predict the future is to invent it, so we will be doing our best to make good on our experts' words every day. - Karen Wickre and Alan Eagle, series editor"

Japanese Plant 'Midori-san' - First Botanical Blogger

Via Telegraph.co.uk:
Midori-san, which lives on the counter of a Japanese café, writes regular updates with the help of sensors attached to its leaves.
The detectors pick up electronic signals on the surface of the plant, which responds to light and human touch.
The data is then combined with weather and temperature information and translated into chatty blog posts using a computer algorithm.
Midori-san is a hoya kerrii, which are more commonly called "sweetheart plants" because of their heart-shaped leaves.
And here is a link to Midori-san's Blog (Japanese)

Japanese Solar-Powered Bra Winner By A Knockout!!!!
Wednesday, May 14
TOKYO (Reuters) - Ladies, take your battle for the environment a little closer to your heart with a solar-powered bra that can generate enough electric energy to charge a mobile phone or an iPod.
Lingerie maker Triumph International Japan Ltd unveiled its environmentally friendly, and green colored, "Solar Power Bra" on Wednesday in Tokyo which features a solar panel worn around the stomach.
The panel requires light to generate electricity and the concept bra will not be in stores anytime soon, said Triumph spokeswoman Yoshiko Masuda, as "people usually can not go outside without wearing clothes over it."
But it does send the message of how lingerie could possibly save the planet, Masuda said, adding that the bra should not be washed or sunned on a rainy day to avoid damaging it.
Being eco-friendly is now fashionable in Japan, and the "Solar Energy Bra" follows the company's other green-themed undergarments that include a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag and one that featured metal chopsticks to promote the use of reusable chopsticks.
"It is very comfortable and I can really feel involved in eco-friendly efforts as well," model Yuko Ishida said.
And if the gorgeous Japanese model above is what being eco-friendly is all about, well, then, of course, I will soon become a charter member of Greenpeace!

Takashi Murakami's 'My Lonesome Cowboy' to rope in seven figures at Sotheby's
"Artist and designer of the now-iconic Vuitton handbags, Takashi Murakami, is auctioning off several pieces in Sotheby's upcoming spring auctions. The most valuable, estimated between $3-4 million, is a sculpture of a manga dude, um, "ejaculating in lasso-like form," titled "My Lonesome Cowboy." Hey, it's not NSFW if it's art."

Instead of actual Indian - English translation subtitles, this video's subtitles include what the editor, someone named "Buffalax", thought the actors sounded like they were singing in English!!! And that incorrect interpretation just makes this "Crazy Indian Video (Real Title Unknown)" TOTALLY OFF THE HOOK HILARIOUS!!! CHECK IT OUT:

washingtonpost.com — This is a very rare, highly accurate and overall excellent story on the modern-day Japanese Yakuza Mafia written by Jake Adelstein for the Washington Post. Mr. Adelstein is a very brave man who used to cover crime while living in Japan for 15 years. The Yakuza are very rarely reported on like this by any journalist and they want to kill Adelstein.

David Bowie "Heroes" in Nike China Commercial

Above is a brand-new commercial featuring the legendary hit song "Heroes" which was co-written by David Bowie and Brian Eno in 1977. This short commercial also features several Chinese Olympic athletes engaged in various competitions as this ad is part of a new Nike China marketing campaign which emphasizes that the right attitude and positive outlook is vital for anyone who hopes to compete successfully at any level in any sport. And, in my opinion, they could not have picked a better song for this inspirational and upbeat campaign, indeed.
Well, of course, "Heroes" has been used in many different advertisements in the past, but this current ad could very well end up being the biggest and most widely distributed of all so far.

Just a few weeks ago I saw a great Japanese underground alternative rock show "Who The Fuck!! Vol. 4" which featured Bo-Peep and Who The Bitch at Club Que in Shimokitazawa on 04-10-08. And both bands were really great and are, indeed, a perfect matchup together live! If you ever get a chance to see either Bo-Peep or Who The Bitch, I highly recommend doing so without hesitation! Really, you will not be disappointed.

'Who The Bitch' Review
7:29 AM

The other day I was lucky to get a limited copy of Who The Bitch's first mini-album entitled 'Who The Bitch' and I have not been able to stop listening to it since!!! It consists of six short and very tight pop/punk/rock tunes that upon first listening, immediately demand your attention and start drilling several small but very deep holes into your cranium faster than you can say "What Tha Fuuuuccccc......?!?!" Yes, this relatively new trio just started out in September 2006, but they already have become very extremely dangerous, indeed. Well, their first and only release (so far) came out last July on Sword Records and is not so easy to obtain, but not impossible. So, if you can get a copy, I highly recommend doing so.
Meanwhile, check out their very cool promo video "Cherry" below:
Who The Bitch will appear at Club Que in Shimokitazawa next Thursday night (4-10) along with Bo-Peep and at least one other band. Who The Bitch is ehi (vocals & guitar) Nao (vocals & bass) and yatch (drums).

David Bowie tribute to John Lennon - 'Mother' ` Post Correction

NOTE: This post is a continuation of my earlier post that I released on 02-20-2008 and includes some additional information and slight corrections to my original account of David Bowie's tribute cover of John Lennon's 'Mother':
Bowienet News: Tony Visconti on David Bowie's Tribute Cover of 'Mother' by John Lennon
Tony Visconti: Hi Blam - I've read that string that Robpongi created about Mother. I love that recording and David's vocal performance.
"Robpongi says this, And, yes, that is definitely Reeves on lead with Gail and Mike on bass and piano too for sure. Now, I am wondering "why" this was never released as a full-fledged single!?!?!?! Really, this is so exceptionally good, there is no doubt that it would have gone top 10 immediately on release, for sure! "
"For the record, it was recorded on Nassau (the island). The drummer was Andy Newmark, guitar Reeves, but piano and organ were played by the studio owner. David brought the ADAT tapes back to New York and overdubbed a vocal with me, and Reeves played a solo. I played bass and mixed it on rather primitive equipment (but that's another story). So, no Gail and Mike on that one."
"I've attached some photos from that session. I took the one of David (the guy who loaned us his "Elvis" mic wanted a piccie of David holding it) and May Pang took the other."
Source: Bowienet Photos by Tony Visconti and May Pang
And, once again here is the video: David Bowie: "Mother"
WOW! I certainly did not expect such a response from my previous post. Sorry for the confusion, but thank you very much for clarifying the whole story Mr. Tony Visconti. And also thank you for the truly wonderful pictures from the actual studio recording session of John Lennon's 'Mother' Indeed, those are just absolutely amazing! I really appreciate your very kind generosity, and wish you all the very best always!
